US stocks in green for first time in August
US stocks finished Tuesday's session in the green, trimming the losses incurred this month on fears that the US economy is slipping into recession.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 294 points, or 0.75%, to 38,997 points, after losing 5.25% over the last three sessions.
The S&P 500 gained 53 points, or 1%, to 5,240 points and the Nasdaq Composite added 1%, or 166 points, to reach 16,366, after both gauges fell 6.10% and 7.95% since the end of July.
As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 inched up 0.3%, to 488.4 points, backed by technology and energy stocks.
CAC 40 dipped 0.25% to 7,130 points, FTSE 100 added 0.25% to 8,026 points, and DAX 40 increased 0.1% to 17,354 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 increased 10.25%, or 3.217 points to 34,675, marking its highest daily performance since Oct. 2008. TOPIX increased by 9.30%, or 207 points, to 2,434 points.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for October delivery rose by 0.25%, or $0.18, to $76.48 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for September delivery inched up 0.35%, or $0.26, to $73.20 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for December delivery inched down by 0.55%, or $12.8, to $2,431 per ounce.
