Al Jubeir: Saudi economy drives regional stability

Saudi Arabia's economy is a key driver for regional stability,Adel Al Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said, affirming that the Kingdomis a main route of global trade.

 

During the panel discussion at G20 Saudi Arabia, Al Jubeir stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat COVID-19, noting that the G20 countries took major steps to fight the epidemic and offered billions of dollars to develop a vaccine.

 

"The G20 summit will issue a positive statement, especially that there are more than 400 meetings with recommendations to be submitted to leaders. Thus, they will have the ability and expertise to deal with challenges during the next summit that will be held in Italy next year," the minister said.

 

He added that there are major challenges such as the artificial intelligence (AI) and the mechanism of dealing with the technologies that are developing amazingly, in terms of providing jobs for the next generation, and employing them in the field of education.

 

Al Jubeir also stressed the importance of technology in facilitating communication between countries and international organizations to discuss common issues, saying: "I think the lesson learnt from this issue is that we can achieve everything independently."

 

He also drew attention to the international efforts exerted to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 that led to the death of several people, indicating that countries will have protocols for dealing with pandemics in the future.

 

The G20 summit does not only deal with political issues, but also with economic ones in terms of empowering youth and women, the minister said.

 

He praised the Kingdom's efforts to address the COVID-19 crisis, through creating working groups at the government level, evaluating the relevant consequences, and posing several preventive measures, which contributed to reducing the infection rates.
