Prince Jalawi Musaed, Governor of Najran region, inaugurated today, July 26, Jabal Guyan Gold Mine and Factory, and laid the foundation stone for Al Masane Al Kobra Mining Co.’s (AMAK) copper and zinc mine expansion project, at a total cost of SAR 600 million, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. 

AMAK’s CEO Yahia M. AlShangiti confirmed that the mine expansion will boost the company's production of copper and zinc by 40% and 80%, respectively, next year. 

He stated that the company's projects in Thar governorate contain a reserve of more than 8.2 million tons of copper and zinc ore, in addition to four million tons of gold ore reserves in the Guyan mine. The production of copper, zinc and gold concentrates is about 215,000 tons, 298,000 tons and 24,000 ounces, respectively, from mines and factories during the past 10 years of operation. 

Besides, more than 40 square kilometers of underground mining area have been developed.  

AMAK plans to expand its copper and zinc mine expansion project in 2023, which will boost the company’s output of copper by 40% and zinc by 80% by the end of 2023, AlShangiti told Argaam recently.
