Saudi Aramco, energy ministry to establish Middle East's biggest carbon capture hub

Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman

Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco) signed a joint-venture agreement with the Ministry of Energy during Saudi Green Initiative 2022, to establish the largest carbon capture and storage hub in the Middle East, said Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

He added that the hub will start operations in Jubail Industrial City by 2027, with a capacity to capture and store nine million tons per annum (tpa) of carbon dioxide during the first phase.

In addition, the hub aims to support the Kingdom's goal of capturing, using and storing 44 million tpa by 2035.
