Saudi Electricity begins ops at Abu Ajram plant in Al-Jouf

Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) has started operations at its Abu Ajram transmission plant (132 Kilovolt) in Al-Jouf region as part of its efforts to enhance power service in the northern region, the company said in a statement.

The plant is worth SAR 178 million.

The Abu Ajram station will eliminate any emergency problems in the distribution network, said Laith Al Bassam, chief executive of the National Grid, a subsidiary of SEC. The 250 MVA-station will also reduce diesel consumption.

The plant consists of four transformers. Around 78.2 kilometers of the network have been implemented so far, Al Bassam added. The Abu Ajram transmission plant is part of several electricity projects in the northern region all worth a total cost of SAR 5.5 billion.

The National Grid has recently implemented and operated the longest overhead line in the Kingdom which extended to a distance of 790 km.
