Saudi Arabia ranked in the sixth place globally for the second consecutive year in the 2020 Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index due to a notable improvement in its business fundamentals.

The ranking is also supported by the nationwide economic strategy and transformative plans in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which are set to open and diversify the domestic economy and integrate it more closely with the global market.

“Saudi Arabia is continuing reforms across its economy, opening formerly restricted sectors of its market to increased levels of foreign ownership and investment as well as providing stimulus for private sector job creation,” the report stated.

Among the Gulf countries, the UAE ranked third, followed by Qatar (7), Oman (14), Bahrain (15), and Kuwait (19) in the logistics index. China and India lead the list, at first and second place, respectively.

“The Gulf nations continue to diversify, making steady progress in streamlining regulations and realizing increased digital capabilities,” Elias Monem, CEO of Middle East & Africa for Agility GIL, said.

He added the entire region is growing and the outlook continues to be healthy.

The Emerging Markets Logistics Index ranks 50 countries by factors that make them attractive to logistics providers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, air cargo carriers and distributors.
