SFDA seeks public input on table of violations of food law

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) seeks feedback on the table of violations and their penalties according to the Food Law and its executive regulations, published on the Istitlaa platform. The SFDA invited interested parties and specialists to submit their opinions by Sept.15, 2024.

The move to modify the table of violations and penalties under the Food Law and its executive regulations to ensure that fines are proportional to the severity of the violations and their impact, increase the efficiency of penalties applied to violating establishments, and help achieve the objectives of the law to ensure the safety and security of food.

The maximum fine for food manufacturing violations is set at SAR 500,000 for large establishments, SAR 400,000 for medium-sized establishments, and SAR 300,000 for small establishments if they handle food or any of its derivatives containing prohibited, banned, or toxic substances.

The table also stipulates a financial penalty of SAR 20,000 for large establishments if they handle expired food, SAR 16,000 for medium-sized establishments, and SAR 12,000 for small establishments.
