The volume of investment in the Kingdom's food industry reached SAR 88.19 billion, representing 6.12% of the total investments in the industrial sector, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing Jarrah Aljarrah, Spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.
He added that the number of food factories reaches 1,183, constituting 14% of the total number of factories in the Kingdom.
The Kingdom’s food-producing factories topped the list in the field of preserving and processing fruits and vegetables, with about 296 factories, and they offer more than 89,000 jobs, Aljarrah said.
He stressed that the industrial sector has distinguished capabilities in several activities, the most important of which is dairy, poultry, oils, dates and baked goods.
The sector has witnessed remarkable growth since the beginning of 2021, which reflects the importance of moving forward to increase its investment to achieve food security in the Kingdom through fulfilling the needs of citizens and residents.
