Yamamah Cement will have to relocate its cement factory in Riyadh by at least 70 KM outside of the city as part of the Saudi capital’s development plan to improve the environment, which also includes closing down leather treatment plants and sewage dumping, Al-Jazeerah newspaper reported, citing Ibrahim al-Shaia, director of environmental planning in Riyadh.
In 2012, the environment authority in Riyadh gave Yamamah four years to relocate its factory, according to Argaam.
The company has said in a recent report that it was planning to move its factories. The Petroleum & Mineral Ministry has recently granted Yamamah permits to mine for limestone, clay and sand in three areas outside Riyadh.
