Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates Airline has installed 2,900 photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftop of its engine maintenance center within the emirate.
The panels are expected to produce up to 1 MW of power during peak periods and will generate 1,884 megawatt (MWh) hours of electricity a year.
Earlier this year, Prime minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched a clean energy initiative to diversify energy sources.
The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum solar park, which is part of the initiative, is still in the works and is slated to provide 5,000 MW of solar energy by 2030.
