Saudi Arabia Military Industries Co. (SAMI) signed on Saturday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based defense contractor Raytheon Co. to cooperate on defense-related projects and technology development.
Under the agreement, Raytheon announced plans to set up Raytheon Arabia, a Saudi legal entity wholly-owned by Raytheon, the firm said in a statement on Saturday.
The new firm, which will be headquartered in Riyadh, will focus on enhancing the Kingdom’s defense and security capabilities.
It is expected to include in-country program management, supply and sourcing capabilities, improved customer access, and centralized accountability.
Raytheon and SAMI will also cooperate on key areas such as air defense systems, smart munitions, and cybersecurity for defense systems.
