Saudi Arabia approves 16 electric vehicle imports

27/07/2019 Argaam

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has approved 16 imported electric vehicles (EVs), since it allowed agents to start importing these vehicles, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper has reported, citing SASO spokesman Tames Al-Hammadi.

The online portal is ready to issue conformity certificates for EVs, he said.

SASO, in cooperation with its partners, is working on providing all requirements needed to prepare an e-certification program for auto agencies and importers.

The organization is in talks with related state agencies to establish an EV charging station, and to set a complete blueprint for the station’s technical, legal and administrative requirements, as well as choosing suitable locations, he added.
