Public Transport Authority set to launch public bus networks in some cities: Al-Rumaih

Saudi Arabia's Public Transport Authority (PTA) has partnered with the National Center For Privatization (NCP) and Non-Oil Revenue Development Center to finalize the terms and targets of operating public bus transport networks in some cities as an initial phase.

"PTA will monitor compliance with launching these networks in the select cities, under certain priorities, including population density, average household income, and private vehicle ownership percentage," Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing PTA's Chairman, Rumaih Al-Rumaih.

The public bus networks aim to ensure several economic and social benefits - being one of the main pillars for city development as they ease traffic congestion, he concluded.

The Saudi Cabinet has recently approved operating public bus networks in six cities and regions across Saudi Arabia, including Buraidah, Jazan and Taif, Argaam reported.
