POS transactions fall 3% to SAR 6.5 bln in week ending July 18

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 3% to SAR 6.53 billion in the week ending July 18, 2020, from SAR 6.7 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.

 

The Kingdom imposed 15% value-added tax (VAT) as of July 1, 2020.  

 

Data showed that a total of 57.1 million transactions were processed in the week ending July 18.

The POS sales of major sectors dropped during the week ending July 18, with the telecom sector falling by about 8%, followed by the public utilities sector with 6%. Meanwhile, the fuel stations sector increased 8% over the same week.

 

Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector in the week ending July 18, valued at nearly SAR 1.04 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 806.9 million, and the healthcare sector with SAR 630.3 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities with SAR 2 billion, representing 31% of the total sales, followed by Jeddah with nearly SAR 1.1 billion.
