POS transactions up 12% to SAR 6.7 bln in week ending August 15

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 12% to SAR 6.74 billion in the week ending August 15, 2020, from SAR 6.04 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that a total of 61.1 million transactions were processed in the week ending August 15.

The POS sales of the majority of sectors rose during the week ending Aug. 15, led by the education sector which grew by about 440%, followed by transport and construction materials sectors which saw 37% and 32% increase, respectively.

                                                                       

Hotels sector saw the sharpest decline during the week ending Aug. 15, falling by almost 6% followed by restaurants & cafes sector which fell by 3%.

 

Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week, valued at nearly SAR 1.1 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 900 million and the healthcare sector with SAR 637.3 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.1 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.1 billion.
