Saudi Ground Services Co. (SGS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al Salem Johnson Controls to develop technical solutions for sterilizing airports and airplanes in the Kingdom.

The ultraviolet disinfection and sterilization units will be manufactured to sterilize the aircraft in order to maintain the safety and health of passengers, as well as limit the spread of the virus, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The new sterilization unit is a powerful disinfection tool for intensively and effectively sterilizing large areas. It helps sterilize and disinfect small planes in 7 minutes and large planes in 15 minutes.

SGS chief executive officer, Fahad Bin Hamzah Cynndy, said that the safe resumption of air traffic, whether full or partial, at the beginning of January 2021, requires high-quality technical and preventive efforts and specifications, in line with the requirements issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

He noted that such technologies are being used in Saudi airports and planes to ensure the safety and health of passengers in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to promote localization.
