The point-of-sale (POS) transactions increased 4% to SAR 9 billion in the week ending Dec. 5, 2020, from SAR 8.65 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 80.8 million transactions were processed in the week ending Dec. 5

All sectors witnessed a rise in POS sales during the week, except for food and beverages and electronics and electric appliances.
Education sector topped the rising sectors, with 51% growth, through SAR 87 million sales. It was followed by miscellaneous goods and services sector with 15% rise.
Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.39 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.16 billion and the clothes and footwear sector with SAR 866.3 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.94 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.46 billion.
