Saudi Arabia advances to 14th spot globally for COVID-19 related research

Saudi Arabia ranked 14th globally in terms of coronavirus-related research, advancing from the 17th position in the previous ranking.

The Kingdom maintained top ranking among Arab countries, and took the 12th spot within the G20 member states, according to Web of Science.

Commenting on the occasion, Minister of Education Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh extended appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince for their continuous support to education and scientific research, which reflects on the country’s ability and position to deal with crises.

The minister also said that Saudi universities have managed to publish as much as 84% of the COVID-19 related research, indicating that the total related researches published across the Kingdom was as many as 915.

He also pointed out that this achievement is an embodiment of the Ministry of Education's keenness to organize events that enhance the participation of Saudi universities, research centers, researchers, and academics in supporting the scientific research process during the pandemic, in addition to coordinating the efforts of universities through specialized workshops to raise research efficiency and their contribution to confronting COVID 19.

“This is in addition to discussing means of prevention and treatment, investing the research capabilities of university and research center employees, finding scientific solutions that contribute to treating this pandemic and reducing its effect,” Al-Sheikh concluded.
