POS transactions add 20% to SAR 31.1 bln in February 2021: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions grew by 20% to SAR 31.05 billion in February 2021, from SAR 25.93 billion in the same period last year, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

A total of 313.8 million transactions were processed through 762,600 points of sale in the same month.

POS transactions represent consumers spent using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Cash withdrawals declined 20% to SAR 45.01 billion – the lowest in nine months -- in February 2021, from SAR 56.39 billion last year.

The withdrawals were processed through 17,300 ATMs and through 128.3 million transactions.
