Saudi transport ministry inks MoU with Huawei to promote modern tech in transport

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei to promote the adoption of modern mobility technologies and methods in the transport and logistics sector.

The ministry said in a statement that this comes to discuss opportunities to use advanced technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and mega data in transport and logistics sectors.

Under the agreement, Huawei will provide the Ministry of Transport with proposed solutions in the areas of automation, mega data and digitization, and will contribute to the provision of shared mobility, sustainability, and the use of modern technologies in the development of the Kingdom's intelligent transport system and logistics sector.

Mansour Alturki, Deputy Minister of Transport for Planning & Info, said that the adoption of modern technologies such as AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) will improve the performance of the logistical system.

This will directly raise the Kingdom's ranking in logistics performance and cross-border trade indicators, in order to establish its position as a global logistics center connecting the three continents.

This agreement will contribute to the goals associated with improving the quality of life in the Kingdom by discussing the application of the latest smart mobility systems and improving the services provided to citizens, residents and visitors in facilities such as airports and train stations.

This will take place through discussing the application of the latest automation practices and the IoT in its operations, in addition to increasing the integration of transport patterns to improve movement between and within cities and reduce the total time spent on flights.
