Almarai Co. reported a net profit after Zakat and tax of SAR 1.563 billion for 2021, a 21% decline from SAR 1.984 billion a year earlier.

The Saudi diary giant faced a challenging year due to the base year effect of COVID-19 and the value-added tax (VAT) rate change related purchases last year. As a result, GCC revenue were at same level of last year. However, robust growth in Egypt, Jordan and non-branded products, mainly alfalfa sales driven by de-stocking program, helped record positive growth.

Gross profit decreased by 8.6% year-on-year (YoY), at a lower margin rate, due to two structural adjustments related to subsidy reduction and change of alfalfa feed consumption to 100% imported basis.

In addition, the dairy producer noted an increase in selling and distribution expenses, general and administrative expenses, and other expense.

Almarai’s net profit after Zakat and tax dropped 15% year-on-year to SAR 286.5 million in Q4 2021.

On a sequential basis, Q4 net profit slipped 30% from SAR 409.1 million on seasonality of sales.

Shareholders' equity (excluding minority interest) at the end of 2021 amounted to SAR 16.119 billion, compared to SAR 15.687 billion a year-ago.
