Saudi Arabia not responsible for oil shortage amid Houthi attacks: Official

Saudi Arabia will not bear the responsibility for any shortage in oil supplies in light of recent attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on the Kingdom’s oil facilities, Saudi Press Agency reported, citing an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The international community should realize the danger of Iran providing the Houthis with ballistic missile and drone technology, which the latter uses to target oil and gas production sites in the Kingdom, leading to serious consequences for the upstream and downstream sectors. It also affects Saudi Arabia’s production capability and its ability to fulfill commitments, the ministry official said.

This will certainly weigh on the security of the energy supplies to the global markets, he added.

He also highlighted the role of the international community to maintain the energy supplies and to deter the Houthis attacks, which pose a direct threat to the security of oil supply in the global markets.
