POS weekly transactions gain SAR 9 bln: SAMA
POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 8.95 billion in the week ended July 23, up from SAR 8.07 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 125 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The education sector took the lead among rising sectors at 950%, followed by the transport sector at 76% and the construction materials sector at 61%.
On the other hand, the restaurants and cafes sector led the decline at 11%, followed by the hotels sector at 10%.
Consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector in the week at nearly SAR 1.33 billion, representing nearly 14.9% of total sales, followed by the food and beverages sector at SAR 1.28 billion, or 14.3% of total sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.13 billion, representing 26% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.26 billion.
