POS weekly transactions reach SAR 10.2 bln: SAMA
POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.2 billion in the week ended Aug. 20, down from SAR 10.3 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 138.6 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Education sector came on top during the week with an increase of 114%. It was followed by clothes & footwear and hotels sectors at 8% and 3% increases, respectively.
Telecommunications sector led decliners after falling 12%, followed by food and beverages at 7%.
Consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector in the week stood at nearly SAR 1.50 billion, representing nearly 15% of total sales, followed by the food and beverages sector at SAR 1.41 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in value terms with nearly SAR 3.07 billion, representing 30% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.62 billion.
