POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 9.5 billion in the week ended Oct. 22, compared to SAR 10.27 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 138.93 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors saw a decline last week except for the jewelry sector which saw an increase of 5%.
The education sector led the decline with a 26% week-on-week (WoW) drop. It was followed by the public utilities sector at a 12% decrease. Clothes and footwear and fuel stations sectors came next with an 11% decrease each.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.43 billion, representing almost 15% of total sales. It was followed by the restaurants and cafes sector at SAR 1.4 billion, representing 14.8% of sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in value with almost SAR 3.08 billion, representing 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.47 billion, as indicated below:
