MAWANI, Bahri add new shipping service between Asia, Europe through Jeddah Islamic Port

Saudi Ports Authtority (MAWANI) and National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) announced today, Feb. 12, establishing a new cargo shipping service line between the Asian and European continents through Jeddah Islamic Port, the Far East ports and India. It aims to strenghten Saudi Arabia’s imports and exports from and to global markets.

In an emailed statement to Argaam, Bahri said the new service line links the Kingdom to six global ports. It runs from Bremerhaven to Antwerp and Montoir in Europe through to Jeddah, then to Ennore in India, and onwards to the Port of Taicang in China. The service line’s westbound route runs from Taicang and Shanghai in China.

The move comes as part of Bahri’s expansion plan to enhance its shipping network and support supply chains. The first vessel is expected to reach Jeddah Islamic port in early February 2023.

The move aligns with the company’s strategic objective to move up the Kingdom’s ranking on the regional level on the UNCTAD Liner Shipping Connectivity Index to 80 points from 71.33 points.

In 2022, MAWANI and Bahri signed an agreement to build and operate an integrated logistics park on land leased at the Jeddah Islamic Port on a total area of 95,436 square meters, according to Argaam data.
