GACA launches Al-Ahsa International Airport development, expansion project

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) launched today, Feb. 15, Al-Ahsa International Airport development and expansion project, which targets raising the airport's capacity by 250% to reach one million passengers annually.

During his participation today in Al-Ahsa Forum 2030, GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej said that the project includes building two international terminals at a total area of 3,400 square meters; developing and upgrading the current domestic flights terminals, in line with the two new international terminals, in order to unify the airport's identity, and boosting the operational capacity of the travel check-in platforms and upgrading the baggage conveyor system and technical infrastructure, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Ahsa Governorate is characterized by its strategic location and integrated infrastructure; thus, the presence of a modern international airport will facilitate access to it and connect it with the world, said the top official.

He added that Al-Ahsa International Airport saw 30% growth in the number of passengers and a 6.6%  rise in the number of flights during 202, compared to a year earlier.

Moreover, the first direct international flights to Dubai resumed last November on Fly Dubai aircraft, said Al-Duailej, adding that Dammam Airports Company is working on offering a number of investment opportunities.
