GACA says 11.5 mln passengers fly through Saudi airports in Ramadan, Eid

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced that over 11.5 million passengers flied through the Kingdom’s airports as of early Ramadan until Shawwal 9, 1444, up 25% compared to a year earlier, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

These passengers traveled on more than 80,000 flights served by 55 air carriers. King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah served the highest number of passengers exceeding 4.4 million.

It was followed by King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with three million passengers, and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah with nearly one million passengers. Meanwhile, Dammam Airports Co. (DACO) served over one million travelers, and the remaining number of travelers flied through the airports of Airports Cluster 2 Co., each as per its operating efficiency.

Such a breakthrough came as a result the Kingdom’s unlimited support rendered to the aviation sector as a key economic driver with a major impact on the sustainable development, stated GACA President, Abdulaziz Al-Duailej.

The aviation sector plays a key role in the fulfillment of Saudi Vision 2030, and the development of the air transport which largely contributed to the social as well as the economic development. Al-Duailej also indicated that the aviation industry has prime international presence on various levels, in line with the national aviation strategy, adding that early procedures taken by the different institutions contributed to effectively boost the airports’ operating efficiency.
