POS weekly transactions reach SAR 11.6 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.59 billion in the week ended May 6, compared to almost SAR 10.38 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 172.58 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Restaurants and cafes as well as hotels were the sole decliners, shedding 9% and 16%, respectively.
Education led gainers in terms of the value of POS transactions, with 258%, followed by construction materials (51%) and transport (46%).
During the week, consumer spending was focused on F&B with nearly SAR 1.88 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes (SAR 1.76 billion).

By city, Riyadh topped in terms of POS transaction value with almost SAR 3.73 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.67 billion, as indicated below:
