The US economy added jobs at the slowest pace since December 2020, reflecting a slowdown in the labor market.

 

The economy added 209,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, falling short of estimates for 230,000 jobs.

 

May’s data was revised to a total of 306,000 jobs from 339,000. April’s data was also changed from 294,000 jobs to 217,000.

 

The unemployment rate fell slightly to 3.6% in June, from 3.7% as expected.

 

Working hours edged up by 0.1 hour to 34.4 in June. The average.

 

In June, average hourly earnings rose by 12 cents, or 0.4%, to $33.58.
