POS weekly transactions down to SAR 11.2 bln: SAMA
POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.19 billion in the week ended Sept. 16, compared to SAR 11.33 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 181.9 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The education sector led the decliners with a 43% drop, followed by recreation and culture at 11% and miscellaneous goods and services and clothing and footwear at 2% each.
Conversely, furniture led the best performers at 7%, followed by transport (6%).
Consumer spending focused on the food and beverage sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.77 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes with SAR 1.64 billion.

Riyadh led in POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 3.76 billion, or 34% of total sales. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.6 billion, as shown below:
