Lucid assembled near 800 EVs in Saudi Arabia: Exec

Faisal Sultan, Vice President and Managing Director of Lucid Middle East

Lucid Group assembled nearly 800 electric vehicles (EVs) in its Saudi factory since its opening, said Faisal Sultan, Vice President and Managing Director of Lucid Middle East.

The cars are fully built in Arizona and are then disassembled and shipped to Saudi Arabia as a kit, Sultan told Reuters. The kit is then put back together in the Kingdom, he added.

Employees at the Jeddah factory reconnect the battery, reinstall the trim and tires, and retest the vehicle, the senior executive said.

Lucid is focusing on training over 200 local employees, he added.

The opening of the complete build unit (CBU) depends on factors such as supply chains and workforce development.

Last September, Lucid, partially owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), officially opened its first EV plant in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), according to data available on Argaam

Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid Group, previously said the goal is to manufacture more components in the company's Saudi factory, emphasizing the importance of what the factory will produce three years from now.
