Yanbu Refinery enlisted in WEF’s global lighthouse network

The World Economic Forum enlisted Yanbu Refinery as the fourth facility within the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Lighthouse Network, in recognition of its efforts in the effective application of advanced technologies that realize many operational, commercial and environmental benefits.

In a statement, Aramco said that, according to WEF’s standards, facilities that demonstrate successful adoption of the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies on a large scale are exclusively considered for enlisting the network.

Yanbu Refinery was joined following the company’s Abqaiq oil processing and crude stabilization facility, Uthmaniyah Gas Plant and Khurais oil complex.

Yanbu Refinery is one of 21 new facilities included in the global network, which so far includes 153 manufacturing facilities around the world, the statement added, indicating that Aramco is the only one among the global energy companies that is represented by more than two facilities.

Ibrahim Al-Buainain, Aramco Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, said that this reflects Saudi Aramco’s continued focus on developing and using the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies that enhance its business and contribute to achieving sustainability goals.

Al-Buainain added that the Fourth Industrial Revolution was successfully harnessed at Yanbu Refinery, which contributed to improving profits, increasing production, and expanding processing capacity, while at the same time reducing energy consumption, waste production, and emissions of gases that cause global warming.

“Such achievements strengthen the company’s position as a pioneer in the field of technologies related to the energy sector, and highlight the benefits that accrue to the sector through the adoption of advanced solutions,” he said.
