POS weekly transactions slip to SAR 11.6B: SAMA
POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.64 billion in the week ended Dec. 16, compared to about SAR 12.07 billion in the previous week.
Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 186.66 million during the week.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

All sectors saw a decrease in terms of transaction value last week, except for the restaurants and cafes, fuel stations, and hotels sectors, which saw increases of 0.4%, 1%, and 10% respectively.
The education sector led the decrease with a 38% drop, followed by the electronics and recreation and culture sectors at 12% and telecommunications at 10%.
For the same period, consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, totaling SAR 1.78 billion, with the food and beverages sector following at SAR 1.77 billion, as shown below:

Geographically, Riyadh led for the same week with approximately SAR 3.98 billion in POS transactions, representing 34% of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.62 billion, as follows:
