RSG, Zain KSA, French firm launch innovative telecom towers in The Red Sea project

Red Sea Global Co. (RSG), Mobile Telecommunication Co. Saudi Arabia (Zain KSA), and France-based Serge Ferrari Group jointly announced the inauguration of innovative telecom towers on Ummahat Island in The Red Sea destination.

This came as The St. Regis Red Sea Resort opened its doors to visitors, ahead of the imminent completion of works at, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Nujama, both situated on the island, according to a company statement today, Jan. 15.

RSG clarified that through this strategic partnership, aimed at maximizing joint efforts in sustainability, Zain KSA designed and distributed innovative telecom towers.

These towers will operate through the world's first carbon-neutral 5G network, recently launched by RSG and Zain KSA, utilizing innovative materials produced by Serge Ferrari Group.

The project aims to achieve five main objectives, namely providing advanced 5G services, enhancing the visual landscape of Ummahat Island, reducing emissions through 100% clean energy use, preserving biodiversity, and enabling tower sharing among all licensed telecom operators in Saudi Arabia.

The joint “technical breakthrough” addresses one of the world's most complex technological challenges: reducing carbon emissions in the ICT sector. “Characterized by their unique design, including the use of innovative materials produced by the French Serge Ferrari Group, the towers blend in with the nature of Ummahat Island, ensuring the preservation of the magnificent vistas and the minimal use of land space,” the statement read.

These towers are powered by the world's first net-zero-energy 5G network. “In addition to being 100% solar powered, these towers are designed in a way that allows air circulation to reduce cooling costs, and they do not require high maintenance,” it further stated.

Furthermore, 40% of the materials used in the towers’ structures are non-metallic, further minimizing their environmental impact.

Group Head of Technology at RSG, Ahmed Alsohaily, stated that these innovative towers will add digital value to The Red Sea destination, alongside its natural and environmental value. They will support the achievement of strategic targets, including a 30% increase in biodiversity value by 2040 in The Red Sea and Amaala destinations, he added, noting that the project also aims to achieve carbon neutrality in operations starting from 2030.

According to data available on Argaam, RSG announced the opening of the first phase of The Red Sea destination in October 2023, welcoming visitors from around the world.
