Saudi Arabia has 280,000 hotel rooms in 2023, 250,000 in the pipeline: Minister

The number of hotel rooms in Saudi Arabia reached 280,000 in 2023, with 250,000 rooms in the pipeline by 2030, according to Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb.

The private sector solely signed contracts to build 75,000 rooms, Al Khateeb said in a panel in the PIF Private Sector Forum, held today.

These luxurious rooms will place Saudi Arabia among the world’s top countries that have the best hotels, Al-Khateeb indicated.

The minister explained that the challenge that faced Saudi Arabia in recent years was the quality of the rooms available, adding that the Ministry of Tourism made major inspection campaigns and closed some unlicensed hotels and premises, most of which were in Makkah and Madinah.

The move was to reach the target room quality, Al-Khateeb noted.
