NCPI mulls actions to hinder disruptions in pharmaceutical raw material supplies

The National Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries (NCPI), affiliated with Federation of Saudi Chambers, is collaborating with competent authorities to consider enhancing logistical procedures to ensure the continuous supply chains of pharmaceutical industries in Saudi Arabia.

According to Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper, this initiative is a preemptive measure against any potential impacts of disruptions in raw material supplies to the local sector, whether through the Red Sea or Bab Al Mandab strait, given the geopolitical tensions in the region.

The committee conducted a survey involving 13 specialized companies in the manufacturing and distribution of pharmaceuticals in the Saudi market. It recommended the necessity of supporting supply chains in the local pharmaceutical industries by exploring alternative suppliers of raw materials from diverse geographic regions. This aims to reduce the risks associated with relying on limited sources and increase inventory levels of essential raw materials. Additionally, the committee proposed the establishment of a database for suppliers.

On the other hand, the Food and Drug Authority stated that there is no shortage of raw material supplies for pharmaceutical manufacturing. It affirmed its continuous communication with companies, manufacturers, and relevant entities to ensure availability and sustainability.

On the other hand, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) denied any shortage in the raw materials required for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
