POS weekly transactions decline to SAR 10.1B: SAMA
POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 10.14 billion in the week ended April 20, down from SAR 11.35 billion in the previous week.
The value of POS transactions last week was the lowest in six months, or since Oct. 21, 2023, when it was SAR 10.06 billion.

The number of POS transactions reached about 171.04 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, the clothing and footwear sector saw the steepest decline in the value of POS transactions by 59%, followed by the jewelry sector (48%) and the recreation and culture sector (33%).
On the other hand, the education sector reported the highest POS transaction value, which rose by 2,997%. The construction and building materials sector came in second with a 135% increase, followed by the transportation sector with an 81% rise.
Consumer spending was focused on the food and beverage (F&B) sector, totaling SAR 1.62 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.61 billion, as follows:
