RCRC awards 4 road projects in Riyadh at over SAR 13B

The board of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced the implementation of a program to develop ring and main roads in Riyadh by awarding four projects, which include the first phase valued at more than SAR 13 billion.

The contracts for subsequent phases will be awarded in the coming period.

The projects in the first phase are:

- To implement the 56-kilometre (km) second southern ring road, extending from the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to the Jeddah Road in the west. It includes four lanes for the main road in each direction, and three lanes for the service road in each direction. The project also includes the implementation of 10 main intersections and the construction of 32 bridges.

-  To build two bridges parallel to the suspension bridge (Wadi Laban Bridge) and develop the intersection of the Western Ring Road with Jeddah Road, with a length of four km. The work includes the implementation of two bridges parallel to the current suspended bridge, and the construction of four bridges at the intersection of the Western Ring Road with Jeddah Road.

-  A project to develop the western part of Al-Thumama Road Axis, with a length of six km, extending from King Khalid Road in the west to King Fahd Road in the east.

-  Another project comprises the extension of Al Taif Road in the Laban district to the Qiddiya project by 16 km, which extends from the western end of Al Taif Road in the Laban district in the east to the Qiddiya project.

In 2020, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman issued directives on the development of main routes and ring roads in Riyadh to upgrade the city’s transportation system, with the aim to transform the capital into a major hub and provider of sustainable transportation and logistics services in the Middle East.

The project also aims to develop junctions between Riyadh’s ring roads and main routes, data available to Argaam showed.
