Cenomi Centers awards contract for cooling plant at Jawharat Riyadh

Arabian Centres Co. (Cenomi Centers) awarded a contract to Arabian Cooling Co. for Cooling and Air Conditioning to build, own, operate, and transfer a new central cooling plant with a capacity of 12,500 refrigeration tons at the Jawharat Riyadh Mall.

The contract is valued at SAR 14.4 million annually, in addition to consumption fees and inflation adjustments.

In a statement to Tadawul, Cenomi Centers said the 25-year contract will commence from the commercial operation date.

The new cooling plant will feature dedicated offices for the operating team, four medium-voltage cooling units, an air-cooling system utilizing radiator technology, and a thermal energy storage tank with a capacity exceeding 14,000 cubic meters. It will also include 12 water pumps, heat exchangers, three medium-voltage panels, three transformers with their accessories, and all necessary components to ensure full station functionality.

The central cooling plant will integrate advanced automation, reducing manual intervention and improving efficiency.

Cenomi Centers highlighted that the Jawharat Riyadh project, which spans over 350,000 square meters, aims to achieve LEED certification for energy and environmental design excellence.

Arabian Cooling is a joint venture between FAS Energy and Sojitz Corporation, the statement noted.

The company emphasized that no upfront capital expenditures will be incurred. The plant is expected to save approximately 13 megawatt/hour of electricity annually, equating to financial savings of around SAR 4 million per year.

Over the 25-year contract term, total savings are estimated at SAR 100 million. Additionally, the project is expected to cut operating and maintenance costs, including replacement expenses, by approximately 30% annually.

Arabian Cooling obtained a temporary license for district cooling activities from the Saudi Electricity Regulatory Authority (SERA).

Updates on the issuance of the final license will be announced in due course, the statement added.
