Trump predicts China trade pact

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he believes the US will reach a trade agreement with China, despite criticizing Beijing's retaliatory measures in response to his tariffs on Chinese imports.

Speaking to reporters following his decision to suspend high tariffs on most countries, Trump stated that China is interested in reaching a trade deal with the US but doesn't know "how to proceed."

He referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "man of pride," noting that China was beginning to understand the situation and would eventually reach an agreement with the US.

In 20245, China earned $1 trillion in trade with the US, he said

Trump recently announced an increase in tariffs on China to 125%, just hours after raising them to 104%, in response to the retaliatory measures adopted by Beijing against the US tariffs.
