Al-Othaim hypermarket branch in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rawda district was shut down on Tuesday by the general licensing and markets control department in Jeddah over a series of food safety violations. 
 
Jeddah’s municipality said the offences included selling expired and damaged foods, a general lack of hygiene and cleanliness, and the dumping of unused food waste. 
 
The market had mounted a long list of violations. 
 
Officials cited non-compliance with safety procedures required for handling meat, inappropriate food storage, hindering the work of food inspectors, lack of refrigerator maintenance, poor foods preservation, and using food warehouses as workshops for the installation of civil defense equipment.
