SABIC’s Kemya to start operations by H2, says official

Al-Jubail Petrochemical Company (Kemya), which is equally owned by SABIC and ExxonMobil, will start production during the second half of this year, according to Matt Aguiar, senior vice president at ExxonMobil Chemical​.


“We are adding halobutyl rubber, specialty elastomers and carbon black capacity, along with a technical center by the second half of 2015,” Aguiar​ said 


Aguiar was quoted by ICIS at the sidelines of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) International Petrochemical Conference (IPC). The IPC takes place March 29-31 in San Antonio, Texas in the United States.

The elastomers producer will operate at a total capacity of 400,000 tpa, including 110,000 tpa per year of halobutyl rubber capacity.

ExxonMobil is also building a 140,000 tpa rubber unit in Singapore, which is set to be completed in 2017
