Saudi crown prince calls for coordinated action to fight terror

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, also the deputy premier and minister of interior, has called for coordinated efforts to tackle terrorism in light of the escalation in attacks by extremist groups across the world.

The crown prince said efforts should include cutting of financing to terror groups. He also noted that countries should not blame entire communities for actions carried out by fundamentalists, whether based on race, belief, or nationality.

“On this occasion, we emphasize our countries’ and peoples’ condemnation of the terrorist acts in Tunisia, France, and Mali,” the Saudi-owned news agency quoted him as saying. “We express full solidarity with all countries facing a threat of terrorism and will continue joint and coordinated efforts by our security authorities to combat terrorism.”

Mohammed bin Naif was speaking a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interior Ministers in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.

Later on the sidelines of the meeting, an agreement to set up the joint GCC force headquarters in the United Arab Emirates was also signed.
