UAE’s Landmark Group halts sale of Trump products after 'Muslim ban' remarks

Dubai-based retail giant Landmark Group said on Tuesday it had stopped selling Trump-branded merchandise at its Lifestyle department stores in the Middle East after United States (US) presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a ban on Muslims entering the country.

“In light of the recent statements made by the presidential candidate in the US media, we have suspended sale of all products from the Trump Home décor range,” Sachin Mundhwa, CEO-Lifestyle, said in an emailed statement to Argaam.

Lifestyle had signed a deal in February to sell the Trump Home Décor collection through its outlets in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, developer Damac Properties, which partnered with the Trump Organization for the Akoya by Damac project, declined comment on Trump’s “political agenda”.

"We would like to stress that our agreement is with the Trump Organization as one of the premium golf course operators in the world and as such we would not comment further on Mr. Trump’s personal or political agenda, nor comment on the internal American political debate scene,” Niall McLoughlin, senior vice president-DAMAC Properties told Argaam in a statement.

Damac Properties is working with Trump to build an 18-hole golf course and Trump-branded mansions.
