Sacked Saudi civil services minister to be probed over corruption claims

25/04/2017 Argaam

Saudi Arabia’s sacked civil services minister Khaled Al Araj will be investigated for allegations of abuse of power, the Saudi Press Agency has reported.

King Salman on Saturday replaced Al Araj with Essam bin Saeed as part of an unexpected cabinet shakeup.

A special committee will be set up in the coming days to probe the claims brought up against Al Araj.

Al-Araj has been accused of abusing his position to hire his son to a high-paying job within the government, Saudi-based Arab News earlier reported.

“It heralds a new era of transparency,” Hamdan Al-Shehri, a Riyadh-based Saudi political analyst and international relations scholar, was quoted as saying by Arab News.
