Qatar Petroleum to boost gas production by over 20%

Qatar Petroleum on Tuesday said it plans to raise the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production from 77 million to 100 million tons per year, by doubling the size of its new gas project in the southern sector of the North Field.

The expansion is expected to increase North Field’s production of natural gas, condensate and other associated products by 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, state-run Qatar Petroleum (QP) said in a statement.

The new project in southern North Field was announced last April.

“Once completed, within five to seven years from now, this project will raise the production of the state of Qatar to about 6 million barrels of oil equivalent per day,” president and CEO of QP Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said.

Al-Kaabi said following the initial technical studies on the new North Field gas project, QP decided to double the size of the project to 4 billion cubic feet of gas per day – a 20 percent increase from the current North Field production rate.

“This project will strengthen our position as the world's largest LNG producer and exporter,” Al-Kaabi said.
