Saudi Aramco’s Manifa oilfield hit by technical glitch: report

Production at Saudi Aramco's massive Manifa offshore oilfield has been hit by a technical issue, the International Oil Daily reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.

No clear data were provided about the output of the field, which has a production capacity of 900,000 barrels per day.

The report said it was unclear how much production was impacted due to corrosion of the water injection system used to maintain pressure in the reservoir.

Losses were likely to be in "millions of dollars", the sources added.

Manifa is one of state-run Aramco's biggest oilfields and latest expansions, with a production capacity of 900,000 barrels per day. Aramco brought the field online in two phases.

"Corrosion control in the water injection system is not a technical challenge but it can be expensive to repair the water injection lines," said Sadad Al-Husseini, a former executive vice president at Saudi Aramco told Reuters.

The field could be shut down for maintenance. However, Al-Husseini added that the field closure may have an impact on maximum sustainable capacity but will not affect Aramco's exports.
