Saudi security agencies revamp to save SAR 80 bln, says Al-Tuwaijri

King Salman’s decision to overhaul Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry and link security agencies to office of the prime minister--a title that he also holds--is likely to enable savings of up to SAR 80 billion annually of public spending, Mohammad Al-Tuwaijri, deputy minister of economy and planning, told Al-Eqtisadiah daily Monday.

It was an efficient move to reduce wastage of financial resources through standardizing and unifying military procurement for all agencies.

It will also allow the private sector to participate with the interior ministry to provide high quality services, Al-Tuwaijiri said, adding that he expects this to boost the Kingdom’s revenue.

Last week, King Salman issued a royal decree to reorganize Saudi Arabia’s security agencies, Argaam reported.

A homeland security agency was established under the name of Presidency of State Security and will report to the prime minister.

The move came a few weeks after King Salman had appointed his son crown prince, removing his nephew and longtime interior minister Mohammed bin Nayef.
