Saudi Arabia will exempt certain medicines and types of medical equipment from the value-added tax (VAT), which is set to go into effect from Jan. 1, 2018, according to a statement on the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The full list of tax-exempt medical supplies is available on the websites of the General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT), the Ministry of Health, and the General Authority for Food and Drug Affairs.

The list includes drugs and treatments, in addition to special needs equipment and devices.

The standard VAT rate will apply on supplies that have not been included in the list, the statement said.
